Nebraska Hunting Seasons & Licensing

2025–2026 Season

Nebraska is an underrated hunting destination with strong populations of white-tailed deer, mule deer, pronghorn, and excellent upland bird hunting — particularly pheasant and sharp-tailed grouse in the Sandhills region. The state manages over 300,000 acres of Wildlife Management Areas and offers a Walk-In Hunting Access program on enrolled private land. Nebraska's diverse terrain ranges from the Missouri River bluffs in the east to the high plains and Sandhills in the west.

Dates shown are for the 2025–2026 season based on the most recent published regulations. Always verify current dates with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission before hunting.

Tags, Draws & Lotteries

Nebraska uses a drawing system for firearm deer, mule deer, pronghorn, and elk permits. Applications are due in late March. The state uses a preference point system for resident deer and some other species. Non-resident deer permits are allocated with a percentage set aside. Archery deer permits are generally available without a draw. The Walk-In Hunting Access program opens private land to walk-in hunting — maps are updated annually.

Harvest Reporting

Nebraska requires mandatory harvest reporting (Telecheck) for all deer, pronghorn, elk, and turkey. Report through the Nebraska Game and Parks website or by phone within the specified timeframe. CWD surveillance is active with mandatory testing in designated management areas.
