New Hampshire Hunting Seasons & Licensing

2025–2026 Season

New Hampshire offers white-tailed deer, moose, black bear, wild turkey, and small game hunting across its mountains, forests, and river valleys. The state is over 80% forested, providing extensive habitat. Moose hunting is available through a lottery system — approximately 50 to 75 permits are issued annually. The White Mountain National Forest provides significant public hunting access. New Hampshire has a strong tradition of grouse and woodcock hunting in its northern forests.

Dates shown are for the 2025–2026 season based on the most recent published regulations. Always verify current dates with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department before hunting.

Tags, Draws & Lotteries

Most New Hampshire hunting licenses are available over the counter. Moose permits are issued through a random lottery drawing — approximately 50 to 75 permits per year. Applications are due in May. There is no preference point system — all drawings are random. Additional antlerless deer permits may be available in select Wildlife Management Units.

Harvest Reporting

New Hampshire requires mandatory registration of all deer, moose, bear, and turkey at registered check stations or through the NH Fish and Game online system within specified timeframes. CWD has not been detected in New Hampshire but surveillance is ongoing.
